English Country Garden Quilt Along - Block 2 Now available

Hello and Welcome to March 2021!

Here we are, Month Two of the English Country Garden Quilt Along.

I do hope you have enjoyed the Poppy block from Month One and I have to say that I am thrilled with the Poppy blocks I have seen so far.  They are truly beautiful!

The bloom for Month 2 is the Tickseed Wreath.

These tickseed blooms are more commonly known as Coreopsis and the plants produce vibrant, bright coloured daisy-like flowers that bloom here in Summer and Autumn.

Although usually yellow in colour, these flowers also come in a variety of different colours including red, orange, pink, maroon, and lavender – so don’t feel that you must use Yellow fabrics for your blocks as I did.

Did you know?  Floriography is the term for communicating with flower meaning and symbolism?

As I grow more confident in my gardening abilities, I am intrigued to find out more about the meaning of flowers and will of course share more information about each of the blooms in our English Country Garden quilt as we progress through this quilt along.

The Coreopsis flower means Cheerfulness and Love and I cannot help but feel cheerful when I see these flowers blooming in large groups like this!

This block features simple shapes in the form of hexagons and pentagons with only a few leaves this time.  😉  The curved wreath portion is made using bias cut strips so be sure to read the instructions carefully before cutting your pieces.

I also have an unfinished sample in my Blue and White colourway to show you for this block.  Unfortunately, I have had a recurrence of a shoulder injury and I am not able to sew for long periods for now. ☹

I hope to be able to stream live on Twitch this Saturday (6th March) at 10:30am UK Time and baste my shapes for the Tickseed block.  I hope you’ll be able to join me Live, but if not, I will edit and upload the Live stream to YouTube for you on Monday 8th March 2021.

That’s all for now,  I hope that you are safe and well and will continue to enjoy stitching along on this Block of the Month program with me.

Happy Stitching!

Alison xx
